“I first came across The Yogi Textiles in India where I bought one of their kimonos which I wear to death. I love how they’re a celebration of Kantha – the form of embroidery practised by rural women that originates from the state of West Bengal and Bihar, India.” - Sarah
With an aim to handcraft each of its pieces by reviving vintage Indian embroidery techniques, The Yogi Textiles is a modern-day artisanal brand with a true love for heirloom Indian art and handwoven textiles. Its ecosystem of weavers and dyers come together to create slow, handmade products for a fast paced world with all of its garments being made in small batches in different parts of North India. Kantha embroidery is at the heart of their designs, exploring it through compositions found in books written on 'Indian Bengal kantha'. They work with a small group of Rabari women to create motifs on cotton ecru kaftans and dresses using traditional colour compositions used in Rabari embroideries, and all of its hand embroideries are carried out by an all-women organisation based in Bihar and a small group of women on the outskirts of Delhi. And the fibre the use most is handwoven Kala Cotton – a purely a rain fed crop, indigenous to Kutch, Gujarat and organic by nature.
